The palace is located in Daura, Katsina State, northern Nigeria,one of the oldest cities of Hausa civilization and the spiritual birthplace of Hausa identity.The palace traces its origin to the 15th–16th century, evolving as the political and cultural heart of the Daura Emirate.
Daura is famously linked to the legend of Bayajidda, the heroic figure who founded the seven original Hausa states (Hausa Bakwai).
The palace became the seat of power for emirs descended from both pre-Fulani rulers and later Fulani jihad leaders.
