The park is named after Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, a revolutionary figure and civil rights activist from the Niger Delta region. He is celebrated for his 12-Day Revolution in 1966, where he declared the Niger Delta Republic in protest of marginalization.He later fought in the Nigerian Civil War and died in 1968.
